TWP ST GEORGE'S HILL DEFEAT PNH PROPERTIES CHICHESTER IN THRILLER

Date posted: 02 Mar 2009

TWP St George's Hill managed a narrow win over close rivals PNH Properties Chichester in The Premier Squash League. The 3-2 victory keeps the Weybridge side in 4th place in The Southern Division.

First on court was Rachel Willmott, who is studying Law at Guildford University against World number 23 Dominique Lloyd- Walter. Willmott was still at her desk in the first two games and lost both fairly rapidly 11-4. In the third she found her line and length managing to outplay her highly ranked opponent to take the game 11-7. Lloyd-Walter reasserted herself in the fourth to take the match although Willmott can be pleased with her performance which augers well for the future.

Nafizwan Adnan, TWP's Malaysian import won a tight battle on the main court with the unpredictable Robbie Temple. Wan triumphed 11-8 in the fourth game after an entertaining encounter.

Joe Lee cruised to a two love lead against old junior rival Oliver Pett. He reached match point in the third game and Pett's challenge looked over. The Chichester player had other ideas and managed to sneak the game. Pett played tightly in the fourth game and Lee struggled to up his game. Pett won the fourth having saved another match ball and stormed to victory in the fifth game as Lee ran out of ideas.

TWP's Tom Richards who has climed to a career high 43 in The World Rankings took on the experienced Tim Vail the Chichester captain, who used to coach at St George's Hill. Richards was too fast for Vail who produced some of his trademark flair to win the second game. The rest of the match was dominated by Richards who looks set to crack the World top thirty soon.

So with the match poised delicately at two all Daryl Selby took to the court with the recently retired Alex Gough who was a World Open Quarter finalist last season and a former World number four. Selby won the important first game 12-10 and then narrowly took the second 11-9. Gough stormed back in the third to take the match into a fourth game. Selby reasserted himself to win the match and help TWP St George's Hill to victory.

TWP face Unisport Guildford away on Tuesday 10th March and Devon and  Exeter at home on Tuesday 17th March. Both matches start at 7pm and tickets are available from 07905 102094.
