LONDON COACHING BURSARY'S NOW AVAILABLE

The London Coaching Bursary scheme which ran from October 2007 - April 2008 was hailed a success after more than 800 Londoners (over 100 within North London) benefited from subsidised coaching qualifications since the scheme began. Due to the success of the first round of bursaries a second round of coaching bursaries are now available up until 31st March 2009.

The bursary gives coaches the chance to improve their skills, gain valuable experience and increase employment opportunities in the sport and active leisure sector.

To be eligible for bursary candidates will need to:

Start, or currently be taking part, on a UKCC endorsed coaching qualification before 31st March 2009.
Cover 33% of the course fees themselves (NB. The qualification fee is payable upfront by the candidate who can redeem 66% of the fee on achievement of the qualification).
Continue to deliver coaching within a London borough once they have passed their coaching course as either a fulltime, part time or volunteer coach.
Agree to deliver 20 hours of voluntary coaching once qualified.
Following on from evaluation and feedback on phase one of the bursary phase, phase two (up until 31st March 2008) will include the following improvements:

Improve guidance documents available for applicants
A more streamlined application process online
The ability for organisations to apply for a bursary online, via a sponsor application, on behalf of their coaches.
Improved relationships with NGB's
Develop a directory of training provision
Further information on the bursary scheme is available by contacting SkillsActive on (0207) 632 2000 coachingbursary@skillsactive.com
