ESR Performance Department Announcement

Date posted: 21 Jul 2009

As I am sure you are aware, England Squash & Racketball has undergone a significant restructure, most recently within the Performance Department. Improvements to the organisation include the introduction of eight ‘Regional Coaches’ who replace the three ‘Academy Directors.’ This change means that each region will have a designated coach responsible for delivering the specific goals of the Regional and National Programmes. Consequently, there are substantial benefits for each region, including: more frequent, high quality coaching for young, talented players; an increase in coach education opportunities; and greater links with counties and clubs. We are pleased to be able to announce the new Regional Coach Team of David Duncalf (North East); Paul Hornsby (North West); Kirsty McPhee (East Midlands); Darren Lewis (West Midlands); Paul Carter (East); Graeme Williams (London); Tim Vail (South East); and Jonathan Harford (South West). Every Regional Coach will be employed part-time (3 days per week) and will form an integral part of each Regional Team, whilst linking closely with the Performance Department who will quality assure standards of coaching and provide the requisite training and development.

The new-look Performance Team now consists of National Coach, David Pearson and High Performance Coach, David Campion. The appointment of another High Performance Coach is imminent and we look forward to being able to make a formal announcement next week. Furthermore, our team of consultant coaches, which includes Paul Carter and Malcolm Willstrop, has also been strengthened by the addition of former World Number 1, Peter Nicol. Peter will be delivering specialists elements to junior, transitional and senior players during the course of the season.

It has been a period of significant change, which is inevitably disconcerting for everyone involved with England Squash & Racketball, but we are confident that we have a great team, capable of delivering our goals. The hard work begins now.
